Terminal Cancer?

with 8 comments

I live in Scotland. My husband has been diagnosed with mesothelioma (asbestosis). It is a terminal diagnosis. We had planned to go for a cruise in the Med but no one is willing to insure him. Does anyone know of a company who will give insurance (we can afford about £400 for insurance)

  2. I have incurable cancer – but I am not terminal – you only become terminal when you are given a use by date – like 6 months. I have my travel insurance on my Mastercard. I told them I had cancer and they asked me if anyone had told me I was going to die in a specific period – and I said no, because they haven’t. They told me that I was insured but not for any condition arising from the cancer. I think that’s fair enough. I have a 3% chance of surviving for five years from the date the cancer returned from my colon with tumours in both my lungs and my liver – that was in the summer of 2005 – so I’m working on at least being in the 3%!
And whilst the fingers are on the keys, an apology to all the hundred or so people who wished me happy 67th birthday on 14th November 2006 after surviving my first year, because I failed to tell them on the same date in 2007 that I had survived another year! Now I’m planning on my 69th birthday in November this year.

  3. I also live in Scotland and when my two year old son was diagnosed with cancer we had insurance companies who were unwilling to insure him, or charging £2000 for a four day trip to France. I went in to my local broker and spoke to him, he sorted things out and we got a policy with him via Norwich union.

  5. Depends on how long the prognosis is after the return. If more than 6 months try http://www.portwood.co.uk/ – select the travel insurance option and then the terminal prognosis option.

  7. In Canada if you can not get insurance from an insurance company the Government has a special insurance policy for this very thing check with your local MP.
God Bless and I pray you get to go on your cruise.
